It is hard to find anyone on this planet who doesn’t love chocolate. While cocoa is mostly used to prepare chocolate recipes, it can also be used to blend with Indian sweets. Chocolate flavoured barfi is guaranteed to delight the children! Typically Barfi is made with some combination of milk products like khoya / mava or milk powder or milk or condensed milk , sugar, ghee and flavorings. But this chocolate burfi recipe does not require any milk or dairy products. This Chocolate Barfi Recipe is a Perfect sweet, with fewer ingredients, that too not much work on the stove top and the best is -it can be finished within 20 minutes, that is what much needed, for these last few days of Diwali rush. The recipe seems to be so very simple that even newbies in the kitchen can try and this burfi has a melt in the mouth texture
INGREDIENTS for chocolate burfi / barfi –
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour / maida
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup ghee
HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE BURFI RECIPE step by step
- In a pan, heat ghee. Add the flour and stir fry till the raw smell leaves away( abt 8-10).
- Add the cocoa powder and mix it well. Roast for another 2-3 min set aside in a plate.
- Add powdered sugar gradually and mix well to make a thick dough. Make sure the maida – cocoa mix is not hot but slightly warm while adding the sugar.
- Transfer to a ghee greased bowl lined with butter paper and press the dough to make square shape.
- Let it set for half an hour in refrigerator. Then cut into small squares and store in an air tight box. This chocolate barfi tastes the best the next day.
Tips for making chocolate barfi
- Keep stirring continuously while roasting maida for the chocolate burfi
- Make sure the maida is not hot but slightly warm while adding sugar. You can also use butter or oil instead of ghee.
- You can add dry fruits of your choice to barfi after adding sugar. Make sure you roast the dry fruits in ghee or oil before adding them to the mixture.
- Do not use high flame while making this burfi. Try to keep the flame between low to medium.
- milk powder or condensed milk can also be added to this chocolate barfi / burfi for extra rich flavor ( completely optional )
