HOW TO MAKE TOMATO RASAM WITHOUT RASAM POWDER
Ingredients for rasam :
Ripe tomato – 2 to 3 nos
Tamarind – medium gooseberry size
Red chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
fenugreek powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt & water – as needed
To grind
Pepper corns – 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
Garlic cloves – 3 nos
To temper
Coconut oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Red chilli – 1 no ( Pinched)
Curry leaves – few
Coriander leaves – to garnish
Soak tamarind in 1 cup of water for 20 minutes.Take the extract.
Chop tomato into small pieces.
For the rasam masala – grind garlic, pepper corns, cumin seeds,coriander seeds coarsely without adding water. Set aside.
Heat oil in a kadai and splutter mustard seeds,red chilli, hing, curry leaves.Saute for few seconds. Now add the coarsely ground rasam masala. Saute for a minute. Add salt, chopped tomato, fenugreek powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Saute well till tomato turns mushy .Add the tamarind extract. Add the tamarind pulp, salt and water and bring the rasam to a boil and simmer for 8 to 10 min . Turn off the heat, cover and let the rasam stand till ready to serve.
